TARANTULAS: ALIVE AND UP CLOSE is busily filling in its schedule! Two new venues have recently signed up: The San Francisco Zoo (Summer 2011) and The Stamford Museum and Nature Center (Summer 2012). Our eight-legged crew will be extremely well-traveled!

We recently acquired two new tarantula species for inclusion in our traveling exhibits.

Brachypelma albopilosum is better known as the Curly Hair tarantula, and one look shows you why. Their long, curling hair-like bristles are very distinguishing. Extremely docile by nature, Curlies are popular in the pet trade. We think our own personal "Curly" to be an exceptionally beautiful example of her species.

Haplopelma albostriata, commonly know as Thai Zebra tarantula, garners her name from the
zebra-like striping on her legs. This specieshas no urticating hairs for a defense, and therefore has only a fight-or-fight response. Her more nervous and aggressive nature makes her a"look but don't touch" tarantula. "Stripes"will be joining the Dr. Entomo circus exhibit this January.
